Players diving into the Ghosts of the Deep dungeon in Destiny 2 can acquire extra armor and weapons by locating hidden bonus chests scattered throughout the area. These secret chests reward players with additional rolls on gear they have already unlocked during previous encounter clears. Finding both locations ensures you maximize your rewards during each weekly run through Titan's sunken depths.

Finding the First Secret Chest in Hallowfathom

The first hidden chest is located in the underwater traversal section between the first and second major encounters. After completing the initial ritual and descending through the ocean floor, you will land on the sea floor at the bottom of Hallowfathom. Proceed forward toward the first cave system and look for a ravine alcove hidden along the right-hand cliff wall behind a water barrier.

Passing through this water wall reveals a small hidden room containing the first chest. Be mindful of enemies patrolling nearby before claiming your rewards. Navigating this underwater pathway carefully prevents your fireteam from missing this easily overlooked alcove.

Locating the Second Secret Chest Before the Final Boss

The second bonus chest is positioned in the large traversal chamber following the Ecthar boss fight. As you move through the Hive structures toward the final arena, you will encounter a large open room guarded by Shriekers, Wizards, and a yellow-bar Ogre. Clear out the hostiles to safely explore the room's central gazebo-like Hive pavilion.

Climb or jump onto the roof of this Hive gazebo structure where the Ogre was standing. The second secret chest rests right on top of this elevated platform. Grabbing this final chest gives your fireteam one last piece of bonus loot before taking on the final boss encounter.

Tips for Looting Secret Chests Efficiently

Remember that secret chests in Destiny 2 dungeons only drop items that you have previously acquired from main encounter loot tables. If you are looking for specific weapon rolls or high-stat armor pieces, holding off on opening these chests until later in your run can be a useful strategy. Coordinating with your fireteam ensures everyone gets a chance to grab both chests before moving into non-return zones.
